2 Ways To Find A Leak In Your House

Posted on

Water leaking through your house can cause all kinds of problems. If it's in your foundation, you can end up with a cracked foundation and your house leaning off true. If it's in your attic, the leak can cause things like mold and rot, and end up making you have to spend a lot of money to repair all the damage. Then, there is always the problem of your pipes leaking on the way into your house from the water meter, which will look like you are using a lot of water and cost you a lot of money. So if you are worried about a leak, how can you find it? Well, there are several different ways, depending on where the leak is.

Dye can help you find several different kinds of leaks. For example, if you think that you have a leak from your house to the water meter, then a non-toxic, brightly colored dye can be injected into your water supply from the meter. The dye will start to show up anywhere that there is a leak. If it is in your yard, you may have a harder time seeing it because of the dirt, but you will be able to see it eventually. If it's in your house, you should be able to trace the color back to where it first shows up. That will let you get a pretty good idea as to where the leak is so that you can fix it.

If you think that the leak is coming from your roof and not from a pipe, there are other ways that you are going to need to track it down. One of the things that you are going to have to do is to look for discoloration on the walls and ceilings. You are looking for blotchy yellow or brown colored areas. The spots can also look rusty. Once you find one of those spots, you should mark it so that you know where it is, and also so that you can see how big it is and if it gets bigger. Then, you should look for any other spots. Water likes to flow along the easiest path, so the spot you find first might not be directly under the leak or might not be the only place the leak shows.

If you are worried about a water leak anywhere in your house, you can always have a leak detection contractor come out and look at it for you so that you can get it fixed as soon as possible.
